Version 0.9 (30. May 2000), Tomi Engel FarmersSlideTray
Introduction

With the need to quickly find specific images in large picture collections, like the HPV CD-ROM, this simple application was desperately needed. Initially it went by the name PictureIndex but it never was released in that version. Now it is called the FarmersSlideTray.

Feature Check

Like most other image browser the FarmersSlideTray can scan a folder for pictures or accept a selection of handpicked images. These are then turned into a nice looking set of slides and the resulting thumbnails get archived right next to the source image or (if they come from a write protected media like a CD-ROM) at a user defined place.Screenshot

The custom archiving location is one of the few special features but this is what ensures that even a slow machine, like an old NeXTcube, can preview many large JPEG images fast enough the next time you review your collection.

In addition to the quick browsing the FarmersSlideTray offers you a bigger scale preview, the capability to reorganize image collections with drag & drop and access to necessary information like file resolution, size and encoding.

Package Download

The application is not available for download yet

Note: Please make sure that you also have the required frameworks installed on your system!

Since our server might not be the fastest, we encourage you to search for the files in some of the well known archives if necessary. We recommend: www.peanuts.org (Germany), ftp.beng.org (Germany) and next-ftp.peak.edu (USA). In addition to that we would like to point you to the stepwise softrak service which can direct you to other interesting applications.

Future development

One of the few things that I still want to add is the ability to create virtual slide trays where the images can be stored in many different places and just their locations are stored in a document. Maybe there will even be a more advanced autoplayback-to-full-sceen mode which is common in this type of applications. But right now I have no need for such a feature.
